Jezhibaba in RUSALKA
Opéra National de Paris
"Barton valiantly takes on the role of the witch Ježibaba. We are charmed by her ease in stage presence, but especially by her ability to place her voice with precision. At times cruel, her interventions resemble blood-curdling curses. The duet with Rusalka that opens the third act is one of the evening's highlights: suspended in mid-air above Rusalka, she projects an incredibly dark and cynical voice, each powerful high note piercing like an arrow, forcefully filling the entire opera house.”
–Première Loge
“Barton is a more striking Ježibaba: the singer's stage presence and the qualities of her voice create an ambivalent witch, torn between powerful chest notes and piercing high notes.”
