Cat-Related Songs!

“In the Beginning”

by Jake Heggie

Since hearing Jake’s recording with Jennifer Laremore (sp?), I’ve loved this song! It perfectly captures exactly why cats are the center of their own universe! :)

“Cats and Netflix”

by The Doubleclicks

Let’s be honest…"celebrating solitude" is sooooo me. All we need is cats and Netflix, right? (Also, The Doubleclicks are totally rad and everyone should check them out!)

“God’s Perfect Killing Machines”

by Gabriel Kahane

I saw Gabriel’s tweet where he blessed the interwebz with this one page piece of genius, and knew I had to sing his setting of this iconic tweet.

“Cat People (Putting Out Fire)”

by David Bowie

This is just such a gem of the 80’s, and I love just about anything that is David Bowie… win, win, win!!

“Mama Called”

by Gary Shocker

My voice teacher at Indiana University, Mary Ann Hart, used to use this song as an encore a lot when she did recitals, and I’ve been looking for an opportunity to sing it for years! Luckily, I get to do just that at Carnegie Hall on December 14th for their Notables event! This adorable piece is a song about a girl who decides that she’d rather get a cat than find a husband or have a baby… DIS ME. Meow!
